I'm going to open a shrimping business

Unless you plan you pursue a doctorate, a degree in Psych doesn't offer much. This is especially true if you've had 5 declared majors in two years and a transcript of everything from ceramics to cell bio to feminist writers.

They compensate by making us take a "careers" class where we write resumes and realize how little we've accomplished in the crazy, hectic last few years.

“Ashley, what do you do outside of school besides, what does this all say here? bicycles... racing...what?” She said the words as if I'd written that I torture puppies or rob the homeless in my spare time. .

“I.. well... outside of school I like to race bikes.” She waits for an explanation. “ Cycling. It’s fun, but um, takes up alot of time... so I don’t have too much else to put down.”

“Okay, but what else do you do? Where do you work? Volunteer? Are you on a student project committee?”

“No.. I mean, I take 18 hours and race as much as I can. That plus training takes up alot of time and..”

“Well do you do any school sports? Activities?”

“No... what?”

“Sports. Do you play any sports? Have you ever played sports? Where do you work? How many hours a week?”

“Uerhm..”

“Well, what do you do when you’re not studying? Any student activites?”

“I played ping pong in the union building freshmen year.” Defeated.

“See, for some of you who haven't accomplished anything outside of school, you need to elaborate on any extracurricular you might have. Just make them sound interesting., “ She crossed out cycling, which apparently I didn't make sound interesting, and wrote down ping-pong.

PING. PONG.

So there’s the story of how I’ve got a job resume to rival forest gump. Whatever.

Will you hire me?

I've got two bachelors degrees, solid work history, 12 years ICU nursing experience, somewhat successful photography biz ... can I find a full time job outside of nursing? Nooooooooo.
